Constellations by Nick Payne.
“In the quantum multiverse, every choice, every decision you’ve ever and never made exists in an unimaginably vast ensemble of parallel universes.”
When Marianne and Roland meet, a relationship blossoms between the unlikely pair, a theoretical physicist and a bee keeper; the principal idea of parallel universes is explored as different variations of the relationship are played out.
The conversation, which takes place in Marianne’s apartment after a few drinks, marks the beginning of an intimate relationship that will be challenged first by mutual insecurity, later by infidelity and finally by the prospect of mortality. The conversation replays with multiple outcomes and possibilities.
First staged in 2012 at the Royal Court Theatre, this play achieved many accolades including an Evening Standard Award and a Tony nomination. The surprising and provocatively structured play enjoyed transfers to the Westend and Broadway.
Described as “The astrophysicist’s rom-com” this two hander is brought to you by the same team who produced the first studio production for TFT ‘The Effect’, January 2016.
