A hilarious and thought-provoking comedy set in 1956

Titchfield Festival Theatre (TFT) is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of the riotously funny satirical comedy, 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche, running from 25 February to 1 March. This TFT production promises a hilarious and thought-provoking experience for our patrons.

It's 1956 and the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein are having their annual quiche breakfast. Will they be able to keep their cool when Communists threaten their idyllic home? Set in small town America when the threat of an atomic bomb attack was a reality, five 'widows' celebrate the egg through the medium of quiche. It is a delightful, quirky and funny play that borders on the ridiculous. Be prepared for the unexpected!

Janette Evans is director for 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche:

“When I first read the play, it had me laughing out loud, as well as gasping in surprise at its twists and turns. It may be a short play but it packs in a lot of ideas."

"The 1950s costumes are fun and the title is intriguing, to say the least. However, this is not a play for the faint-hearted and you will have to expect the ‘uneggspected’ I think these are qualities which should attract people to want to watch it."

Although on the face of it, the play is light-hearted and funny it does deal with many important issues, such as feminism and femininity, religion and blind faith, as well as the old favourite vegetarian versus meat eaters.

Janette added: "The play is fast paced. The audience will be involved, and the cast will engage with them. It is a ridiculously funny play, which borders on the absurd but also makes some interesting points which are not obvious at first glance. Probably people will think about the underlying ideas well after the laughter has died down."

5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche performs in the Oak Theatre, Titchfield Festival Theatre between 25 February to 1 March 2025. For more information including booking tickets please go to http://titchfieldfestivaltheatre.com/ or contact our Box Office on 0333 666 3366.
