Following on from last year’s hugely successful first season, Titchfield Festival Theatre is delighted to welcome another new set of plays from experienced and aspiring writers as part of its New Play Season 2020. Comedy, classical adaptations, short plays and a murder mystery; the programme is rich in promise and provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy another year of inspiring acting from the largest producing community theatre in Europe.
The New Play Season is designed to provide a showcase for local writers and also from further afield, encouraging authors to submit their work and gain a wider audience. The season lasts throughout January and February and embraces seven different productions, including three one-act plays from the award-winning Titchfield Youth Theatre and two new plays in one: Freehold and Inside Out by Roger Goldsmith.
Kevin Fraser, Artistic Director for Titchfield Festival Theatre, said: “The New Play Season is a chance for writers to pitch their work and see it performed on the Titchfield stage. It can be a challenge to get a play into a production, which is why we are passionate about widening the opportunities for experienced writers and emerging talent.
“This year’s New Play Season includes a diverse range of themes and has plenty to offer. I am particularly looking forward to The Last Secrets written by Janette Evans, a new writer who has come up from our academy and wrote several short stories for us last year. This is Janette’s first foray into a full length play and is written for women and performed by women. There are even a couple of twists which are sure to keep you on your toes, with plenty of laughter and pathos.”
Although Titchfield Festival Theatre’s New Play Season ends in February, over the following 10 months there are many more great productions at St Margarets Lane and at the Great Barn for the Bard at the Barn summer festival. Highlights include Wuthering Heights, Sweeney Todd, A Chorus Line, Macbeth and Sleeping Beauty.
The first production of the New Play Season 2020 is Murder at The Theatre, which opens on Wednesday 8th January until Saturday 18th January 2020 at 7.30pm in the Oak Theatre, Titchfield Festival Theatre, St Margarets Lane, Titchfield PO14 4BG. Matinee performance Sunday 12th January 2020 at 2.30pm.
