Gwenda, an ex-agoraphobic, leads a self-help group of three who have been unable to leave their homes for a variety of reasons. She forces them to help at a local bazaar, enlisting the support of Fliss, a trainee social-worker. While sorting through the bazaar goods they rummage through their own fears and eccentricities – some hilarious, some heart wrenching – but will this cure their agoraphobia?
Janette Evans is director of Bazaar and Rummage said, “A friend introduced me to Bazaar and Rummage and I was immediately captured by her characters, her humour and her pathos.
“Sue Townsend’s writing manages to be very funny, nearly farcical, while dealing with very serious, almost taboo subjects - especially when you remember it was written over forty years ago. This is a very funny play. The cast have taken on the characters and brought them to life. You will laugh out loud and at times gasp but you definitely won't be bored.
“It doesn’t really matter what issues or problems you have - In this play it is agoraphobia. But Sue Townsend suggests the door is open, you choose to go through it. Who will you listen to? Can you overcome your demons? She seemed to be into CBT before it became popular.”
Come along and watch this funny and entertaining play, in which each character brings their own little twist to the story.
