La Cage aux Folles: an outrageously and light hearted French farce

Simon Frost • October 18, 2022

La Cage aux Folles is a classic French farce, hilariously funny as well as touching, and opens at Titchfield Festival Theatre on 2 November

Set in St. Tropez in the 1970s, nightclub owner Georges and his dazzling drag artiste partner Albin create the most spectacular shows in St. Tropez. But when Georges’ son Laurent announces his engagement to the daughter of the notoriously right-wing leader of the Moral Order Party, trouble looms… the prospective in-laws meet, Georges and Albin seeking to conceal their true nature for the sake of their son.

Jane Atkinson is the director of La Cage aux Folles and said,

“La Cage aux Folles is a terrific and over-the-top funny play which will make you laugh and happy when you come along to watch it. There are some great characters and wonderful performances from the cast to keep you entertained throughout the show.

“All of the cast and crew are having great fun during the rehearsals! We will be performing in English but with French accents which will guarantee plenty of amusing and enjoyable moments, with a dance number or two to intrigue and really capture the mood.”

Titchfield Festival Theatre’s production of La Cage aux Folles is performed in the Oak Theatre at the Titchfield Festival Theatre, Titchfield PO14 4BG on Wednesday 2 November to Saturday 12 November 2022. The shows start at 7.30pm.
