One Man, Two Guvnors: a hilarious riot of a comedy

Start Spring with a bounce in your step after watching

TFT’s comic highlight of the year

“A man has got to eat, hasn’t he….?”

One Man, Two Guvnors is Titchfield Festival Theatre’s first production of the Spring season, opening 1 March. This much-acclaimed adaptation was described as one of the funniest productions in the history of the National Theatre – and is now coming to TFT.

When Francis Henshall becomes separately employed by two men, one a gangster and the other an upper-class fool, he tries to keep the two from meeting, in order to avoid each of them learning that Francis is also working for someone else. All this time, Francis is also in pursuit of his two loves – a feminist bookkeeper, Dolly, and fish and chips.

Stuart Hibbard is the director of One Man, Two Guvnors:

“One Man, Two Guvnors is an English, modern adaptation of an Italian play which uses a style of comedy called commedia. I studied this form whilst training as an actor and I loved it, particularly the stupidity of the situations and the laugh-out loud idiocy that the characters find themselves in.

“This version is set in 1963 at the height of the baby boomer generation. We’re going full on with the costumes, the set, bright colours and even the smell of mopeds hitting Brighton beach…

“The cast are having such great fun rehearsing in this joyous and hilarious production. I have never laughed so much during a rehearsal – it is side-splittingly funny, and the humour is relentless. If you like sight gags or one-liners, slapstick or cringe worthy situation comedy this play has it all and more. As we leave the winter blues behind us, start Spring with a bounce in your step and come and see this hilarious riot of a comedy. You might want to avoid the front row though, or you may find yourself in the show!”

One Man, Two Guvnors performs in the Arden Theatre at Titchfield Festival Theatre from 1 – 9 March 2024. For more information including booking tickets please go to http://titchfieldfestivaltheatre.com/  or contact our Box Office on 0333 666 3366.
