Yeehaw! Saddle Up for the Toe-Tappin' Tales of 'Calamity Jane: The Musical!

Deadwood City comes to Titchfield Festival Theatre this April

The magnificent musical Calamity Jane comes to Titchfield Festival Theatre from 5 – 13 April. There will be plenty of toe-tappin’, foot-stomping musical numbers to enjoy, many of which were made famous by Doris Day in the popular 1953 film.

Based on the true story of Martha Jane Canary, a real frontierswoman, accident prone Calamity Jane is a sharpshooter with a heart of gold. She can outshoot any man - except her associate Wild Bill Hickok. After a mix-up at the local saloon bar, she swears that she’ll bring a ‘Chicagee’ singer and noted beauty to town – Adelaide Adams. Rough shootin’ Calamity doesn’t take no for an answer – especially from any man who gets in the way! Calamity Jane is full of western musical delights – Windy City, The Deadwood Stage, A Woman’s Touch, The Blackhill’s of Dakota and of course Secret Love. So book your tickets early and don’t miss the early stagecoach into town. Yeeha!!

Kevin Fraser is the director of Calamity Jane:

“Calamity Jane is a show that isn’t often performed. However it’s a fabulous musical with well-known numbers sung by Doris Day such as Whip Crack-away, capturing the feel of the Wild West. It also has a relatively small cast with a large chorus that suits us at TFT really well.

“For the show, Titchfield will be transformed to Deadwood City! Our huge video wall will have typical western scenery on it and the main street will take centre stage on the revolving platform.

“There are so many brilliant songs to choose from; one of my favourites is Hive Full of Honey sung by Francis Fryer, which he performs as a female singer. The owner of the Golden Garter hires him mistakenly thinking he is a female star. When I performed the part many years ago, I got a 5 star review and brought the house down to hysterics according to the reviewer. It was the first time I dressed as a woman and for the past ten years I've been doing the same in our TFT panto as the various dames...perhaps I should have taken my early 'dame' performance in Calamity as a premonition of what was to come!”

Calamity Jane performs in the Arden Theatre at Titchfield Festival Theatre from 5 – 13 April 2024. For more information including booking tickets please go to http://titchfieldfestivaltheatre.com/  or contact our Box Office on 0333 666 3366
