Disappointed by Fareham Borough Council's decision to reject planning permission for the new Arden Theatre

grant • November 28, 2019

Titchfield Festival Theatre is extremely disappointed to be advised by Fareham Borough Council that it has rejected its proposal for planning permission to construct an additional third theatre at St Margarets Lane, Titchfield, following a meeting of its Planning Committee last week. The new theatre will be called the Arden Theatre and will complement the existing theatre and studio.

The theatre is one of Europe’s most prolific amateur theatre companies, producing more than 25 plays in house during 2019 in three different venues including the historic Great Barn. Our plan is to build a new 600 seat facility, with a new foyer and courtyard, related bars and facilities. The whole project will cost in the region of £3.6m with much of this money already raised – and none of it provided from public funds. Most other local authorities would welcome such an investment into the arts with open arms.

It is therefore confusing for everyone who supports Titchfield Festival Theatre, and somewhat hurtful, that Fareham Borough Council appears to be so negative about what we are doing for the community. We provide a superb arts venue and a home for many community projects. We are promoting Titchfield widely, along with its associations with Britain's most famous playwright William Shakespeare. And we are the most prolific amateur theatre in the UK as well as being the only 100% eco-theatre in Europe.

We would have thought that the Borough Council would be very proud of us and would wish to support us, not least because we are a charity giving so much to the community.

Titchfield Festival Theatre will continue to make the case for the new Arden Theatre within the local community and beyond and to this end they are asking interested members of the public to support their petition outlining why the proposal should go ahead.

If members of the public wish to support our exciting proposal, they can do so by signing the petition here: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/new-arden-theatre-for-titchfield?fbclid=IwAR3ZOEO5nViGWtaFYLeJ0rV7iq6SAULpN3GnjhDUulzyUQPBq4y8vnX5z9Y

Speak to your audience

You know your audience better than anyone else, so keep them in mind as you write your blog posts. Write about things they care about. If you have a company Facebook page, look here to find topics to write about

Take a few moments to plan your post

Once you have a great idea for a post, write the first draft. Some people like to start with the title and then work on the paragraphs. Other people like to start with subtitles and go from there. Choose the method that works for you.

Don’t forget to add images

Be sure to include a few high-quality images in your blog. Images break up the text and make it more readable. They can also convey emotions or ideas that are hard to put into words.

Edit carefully before posting

Once you’re happy with the text, put it aside for a day or two, and then re-read it. You’ll probably find a few things you want to add, and a couple more that you want to remove. Have a friend or colleague look it over to make sure there are no mistakes. When your post is error-free, set it up in your blog and publish.
