“When shall we three meet again! Well I can make Tuesday.”

Wyrd Sisters is one of the very first plays based on Sir Terry Pratchett’s novels, the story of three witches.

The three witches are Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, down-to-earth, matriarch of a large tribe of Oggs (who owns the most evil cat in the world, grey tomcat Greebo) and Magrat Garlick, the junior witch; naïve, fond of occult jewellery and bunnies. Wyrd Sisters is Titchfield Festival Theatre’s next production, opening July 14th.

Wyrd Sisters invites you to look to your imagination to see Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, from the Lancre Ramtop Mountains to the King’s Castle, to the Misty Moors with the Standing Stone, even all the way to Ankh Morpork itself. The play revolves around the story of….well… we’ve got to say it….Macbeth!

Chris Blatch-Gainey is the director of Wyrd Sisters, making his début in the role for TFT. Chris said, “A few years ago I had the opportunity to work with Stephen Briggs and Terry Pratchett to bring the “Directors Cut” to the stage, including performances at the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth. It is a real honour to now bring this work to the Titchfield stage.

“The story revolves around King Lancre being murdered by his cousin, Duke, after his ambitious wife persuades him to do so. The king's crown and child are given by an escaping soldier to the three witches. The witches hand the child to a troupe of travelling actors and hide the crown in the props-box. They acknowledge that destiny will eventually take its course and that the child, Tomjon, will grow up to defeat Duke Felmet and take his rightful place as king. Will he be the King? Well as they all say, “Only a Fool would want to be King”.

“In truth, Wyrd Sisters is a play, within a play, within a play, so audiences will see our stage set as “backstage” with all our stage props waiting to be used. Macbeth is the inspiration. A foul murder of the King by one of his lords, a missing child waiting to inherit the throne, true love, apple sellers, portentous words and actions from three witches. Throughout the play there are various Shakespeare references, with some modern music for scene changes to make you smile.”

Sir Terry Pratchett was celebrated for his mastery of the English language and amazing characters. This show will appeal to all the family, as well as Pratchett fans.

Titchfield Festival Theatre’s production of Wyrd Sisters opens on Wednesday July 14th running until Saturday July 24th, 2021. Evening shows start at 7.30pm. The matinée productions are on Sunday July 18th, 2021, at 2.30pm.
