Comings and Goings is a satirical farce which enjoyed its début at Titchfield Festival Theatre in January 2024, and is now transferring to this summer’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
When Dominic Cummings, on his final day, tries to take revenge, he becomes locked in a room where ministers conduct more private matters. By doing so he witnesses Carrie, Boris and his cabinet of plebs flap, stutter and bumble through an unseen web of lies, comical misunderstandings and unbelievable lockdown scandals.
Ryan Hayward is directing Comings and Goings:
“After the great reception we received from audiences at TFT last year, it was fantastic to hear that the play was to have an Edinburgh spot this year. Boris and lockdown scandals still have place in the public's conscience and getting there this year with the momentum of the January run was important to me.
“The Edinburgh venue holds only 50 seats, with the audience on three sides, so it’s going to be a very intimate experience if nothing else. I’m also stepping in to play Boris and Dominic Cummings this time, which I’m hugely looking forward to. The whole thrill of seeing the diversity of the Fringe is only enhanced by having our own show there.
“Like every director after all the hard work, it's great to sit back on opening night knowing your job is done. Hearing the audience laugh in most of the right places and the cast nailing their lines was a great relief. With the great support from Kevin and TFT, seeing how far my single idea had gone was inspiring and now we have the excuse to go to the Edinburgh Fringe as well.”
Comings and Goings performs at theSpace Venue 9 off the Royal Mile, Edinburgh between 12-17 August 2024.
