The tapestry of tales: fun, laughter and bizarre characters

Chaucer’s five tales as you’ve never seen before….

Titchfield Festival Theatre is delighted to present this August a lively and fast-moving comic adaptation featuring five of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. This modernised version takes the funny Chaucer Tales using a fast and physical delivery, with up-to-date language and setting, and a bizarre group of characters. These unusual companions each tell a story with a moral. It’s funny, at times rude and lewd and very silly. Join us in The Great Barn, Titchfield for Chaucer Upcycled; on stage 18 – 27 August 2024.

Janette Evans is the director of The Canterbury Tales:

“The Canterbury Tales by Geoffery Chaucer were part of my A Level syllabus and I fell in love with the down to earth humour and commentary on real life, which shone through the stories. I always fancied bringing the tales to life and after working at the Great Barn, I couldn't think of a better place.

“The modernised version of five of the tales by Martin Riley, appealed to me. The production has a street theatre vibe to it, with audience involvement. It's loud, funny and very silly and the cast are having great fun bringing it together.

“The cast perform several parts each and add sounds and effects throughout the plays. The five stories are The Pardoner’s Tale, The Nun’s Priest Tale, The Wife of Bath’s Tale, The Knight’s Tale and The Miller’s Tale. From drunken hooligans to talking chickens and bare bottoms sticking out of windows; these plays bring a raw, hilarious look on the human condition. This is entertainment at its best for everyone, no matter what age or background, the tales speak to you.”

The Canterbury Tales performs in the Great Barn, Titchfield between 18-27 August  2024.
