Calendar Girls: the funny, sad and totally uplifting play performs this autumn

A group of women pose for an artistic nude calendar to raise money for their local hospital. The response is incredible…. Based on a true story

Calendar Girls tells the true story of a group of ordinary women who come together to raise funds for their local hospital in memory of the husband of one of the WI members: posing for a nude calendar. This stage version of the successful film is funny, sad – and also totally uplifting. Join us at Titchfield Festival Theatre this September for this incredibly moving and witty play – which will also raise money for two charities: Blood Cancer UK (the charity chosen by the original Calendar Girls) and the Rowans Hospice. From 6 – 16 September.

Franchesca Nicholson is Calendar Girls’ director:

“I thoroughly enjoyed the Calendar Girls movie when it first came out and watched the very first production of the stage show back in 2008, so when I had the chance to direct the play I jumped at it!

“The story of Calendar Girls is one of ordinary people who come together and achieve something extraordinary: raising £5 million for the Leukaemia Research Fund after the death of John, Annie’s husband, from this illness. Whilst the calendar is a great success, there are tensions as well in the relationship between Annie and Chris which puts their friendship to the test.

“It’s really great to have the opportunity of working on a show which embraces everyone, regardless of their age, size or shape. And of course, the story is relatable too as everyone will know someone who has had cancer. Dealing with the nudity aspect of the play is going to be another interesting challenge, but we will be working with the cast during the rehearsals to build trust and I’m sure it will have its fun side too. I am confident that our audiences will love the play and find it inspirational as well as funny.”

The opening night of Calendar Girls is a few months away, however you can still book your tickets now. Titchfield Festival Theatre will also be publishing further updates over the summer.

Calendar Girls performs from 6 – 16 September 2023. For more information including booking tickets please go to http://titchfieldfestivaltheatre.com/ or contact our Box Office on 0333 666 3366.
